Wintertelling is an annual performance by members of the Bloomington Storytellers Guild featuring a variety of tales chosen by storytellers to entertain adults and teens. You may hear anything from folklore and fable to local legend and personal narrative.

The practice of sharing stories is a traditional way in many cultures to pass a pleasant evening in the cold, dark nights of late Winter. The members of the BSG have long enjoyed participating in this tradition.

After the stories, the audience is invited to stay for refreshments and conversations with the tellers.

The library will be closed during this event. Audience should enter through the Kirkwood Avenue doors, which will open at 7:00 pm.

A mess of beans

Now that it is full Summer in Indiana, the beans are coming in.

This has been a good year for beans, 

 lots of beans,

lots of meals with beans.

Doesn't that remind you of a story?

 Yes, that story - the one that starts out with them picking beans

and the little boy can't stand another meal of beans without meat....

Richard Chase called it "Chunk of Meat"

but we all know it as

"The Big Toe."

Prelude to Halloween

Two Guild Storytellers made an appearance in Hope, Indiana, for their annual Goodies, Goblins and Ghost Stories event.

One of us sat in a dark tent where the audience shivered on hay bales and jumped when the Hairy Thing grabbed the little boy:

"What have you got those long sharp teeth for?"

"TO EAT YOU UP"

The other one told on the band stand, 

where the audience helped call

 "Barney McCabe, Doodley Doo and Sue Boy"

 to defeat the witch.

It was a chilly, windy evening, but the costumed crowds enjoyed listening to some of our favorite seasonal tales.
